According to the Daily Mail, Everton are set to announce the signing of James Tarkowski after Richarlison left for Tottenham.
What’s the story?
Well, the Everton supporters are understandably upset after watching their talisman depart for north London in a deal worth £60m.
However, while he isn’t exactly a like-for-like replacement, Tarkowski’s arrival is said to already be finalised, and an announcement was being held back until his contract with Burnley had officially expired.
The Daily Mail believe the England international will be announced imminently, so it could even happen today.
Tarkowski joins the Toffees after suffering relegation with Burnley on the final day of last season.
The 29-year-old made 37 appearances in all competitions for the Clarets, but despite his best efforts, he couldn’t prevent them from dropping into the Championship.
However, Tarkowski was arguably the best player in that Burnley side, so Everton have done well to land him.
James Tarkowski is just what Everton need

In our view, we hope Tarkowski isn’t announced today so soon after the Richarlison news, or else supporters may not fully appreciate how good a signing this is.
Of course, he isn’t an exciting £50m forward, but after Everton conceded 66 goals in 38 Premier League outings last season, something had to be done at the back.
Interestingly, Newcastle and West Ham were told to pay £30m for Tarkowski in January, so the Toffees have done very well to sign him on a free transfer.

The Manchester-born colossus should transform Everton’s backline, and if all goes to plan, he could even work his way back into the England setup.
Tarkowski won two caps for the Three Lions under Gareth Southgate back in 2018, although he has since fallen out of favour on the international scene.
Keep an eye on the situation, as an announcement could happen within hours.
