Everton have set their sights on signing Iddrisu Baba from Mallorca during the January transfer window, according to a report from Calciomercato.

The Toffees have made a reasonable start to life under Rafa Benitez. Unfortunately, the work still ahead for the Spaniard has been highlighted with Everton losing their last three in the Premier League.

Their latest loss came on Monday at Wolves. And the game proved to be a very tough evening for Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

The 2019 signing was replaced at the break at Molineux after a hugely disappointing first-half.

His replacement, Fabian Delph, was actually lauded by a number of Toffees fans on social media following the contest. However, the former Manchester City man has not had the best time at Goodison Park either.

With that in mind, it is little surprise that Everton are looking to strengthen in midfield ahead of the winter window.

And one player they have their eye on is Baba. Calciomercato reports that they are keen on the Ghana international.

Baba may seem an uninspiring target for Everton, but deal could be another shrewd move

The 25-year-old has started 10 times in La Liga this term. He is a player who looks to be progressive with his passing. But he is extremely strong on the defensive side of the game.

In fact, only five players average more tackles per game in Spain’s top flight so far this season, according to Whoscored.

Baba is not a household name. More of his career has been spent outside of La Liga. So any move is unlikely to capture the imagination of supporters.

But after some impressive moves in the market over the summer, it is difficult to write him off as well should he end up on Merseyside.
