Report: Everton set sights on £75k-a-week PL star called ‘fantastic’ by Wayne Rooney
Everton have reportedly entered the running for Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard this summer.
According to The Sun, the Toffees are now among the clubs “keeping tabs” on the 28-year-old English star.
The attacking midfielder is now back with Premier League giants Manchester United for pre-season after an amazing loan spell with West Ham in the second half of the 2020/21 campaign.
It is understood West Ham are keen on re-signing him, but Everton are interested in trying to bring him to Goodison Park.
Lingard, who just missed out on the final cut for the England squad at the Euros, has got his career back on track last season.
He scored nine goals in just 16 appearances for West Ham to help fire them to Europe.
Ex-Everton player Wayne Rooney recently gave the creative playmaker huge praise for his ability.
“Jesse is a fantastic player. He’s done excellent when he went to West Ham on loan and sometimes that’s what kick starts your career again,” Rooney said, as quoted by Sky Sports.
Lingard would be a hit at Everton
Lingard lost his way at Old Trafford a little after falling out of the XI, but perhaps he’s now set for a fresh opportunity at Man United.
He’s a confidence player that at times during his United career has been influential. However, consistency has been an issue.
His form at West Ham shows the kind of player he can be, so based off that it’s easy to see why Everton want the £75,000-a-week dazzler.
He could help inject some extra attacking spark in Benitez’s XI, but the interest is fresh and at this stage doesn’t look too serious.
