Report: Everton set for cash windfall from potential Antonee Robinson deal

Everton could be set for a cash boost if AC Milan manage to convince Wigan to part company with Antonee Robinson this January.

The 22-year-old left-back has been in superb form for the Latics this term. That form, to the surprise of many in the game, has reportedly attracted the attention of AC Milan.

The Italian giants are said to be keen on landing Robinson as a replacement for Ricardo Rodriguez.

However, Everton could also benefit from any potential move for the USA international. According to the Liverpool Echo, the Toffees inserted a sell-on clause when Robinson did move to Wigan.

That would ensure that Everton are due a chunk of any fee Milan pay the Latics. That fee, as things stand, is thought to be in the region of £10m.

Robinson has become a key player for Wigan in the last six months. The chance of making the leap to the former European champions could well be enough to tempt him away from Lancashire.

In the day of mega-money and TV riches being ploughed into the game, the sort of fee Everton will get for Robinson will be a small one.

However, it all helps in the long-run. The Toffees need to back new manager Carlo Ancelotti and so, any money being available will only help the Italian.

It does beg the question, though, as to why Everton let Robinson go given the interest from Milan. Surely if he is good enough for Milan, then he could have done a job for the Toffees.

But, it wasn’t to be and Robinson looks like he’s taking a different route to the top.

There’s little doubt that if the clubs can agree a fee, then Robinson will find it almost impossible to turn down the lure of a move to the Italian giants.
