Everton are reportedly keeping their tabs on Red Bull Leipzig striker Yussuf Poulsen. According to The Express, Marco Silva has ordered his scouts to travel to Germany and check on Poulsen.
The Toffees drew a blank in the Premier League on Saturday, losing 2-0 against Sheffield United. Silva is concerned by his lack of goals with Moise Kean and Cenk Tosun yet to get off the mark. Meanwhile, Dominic Calvert-Lewin has just one goal to his name.
With Everton’s strikers failing to impress, Silva is already thinking ahead to the January window. Poulsen is an option but he also has just one goal to his name this season.
The Denmark international, who has scored six times for his country, is RB Leipzig’s second-choice striker. Timo Werner leads the line for the Bundesliga side with Poulsen in reserve or pushed out wide.
In total, Poulsen has netted 59 goals in over 200 games for RB Leipzig, as well as registering 44 assists. But this season, he has scored once in six tries for the Champions League side. Everton might still consider the towering striker, who stands at 6ft 4in tall.
Poulsen has all the physical attributes to become a success in the Premier League but he needs to add more goals to his name. With Kean, Calvert-Lewin and Tosun grabbing one goal between them, Silva needs a prolific striker if he does dip into the market this January.
The 25-year-old would be a risky signing. Silva should probably keep the faith with Kean, who has proven his goalscoring prowess for Juventus in the past.
