Everton have joined Arsenal in the running to sign Feyenoord midfielder Orkun Kokcu, according to a report from Sky Sports.
Kokcu has established himself as a key man for the Eredivisie side this season. He has made 20 starts in the top flight, scoring twice and contributing four assists. He has also provided two assists in the Europa League.
And his form has caught the attention of at least two Premier League sides. Sky Sports reports that the Toffees are battling with the Gunners for his signature.
However, Feyenoord are hoping that they may be able to convince the 19-year-old to stay. Sky Sports notes that Dick Advocaat’s men – who are arguably not out of the title race with Ajax losing their last two games – are in discussions with Kokcu over a new contract.
TBR View – Kokcu could be an exciting addition for Everton
Everton fans would be forgiven for being extremely excited about the summer window as they await Carlo Ancelotti’s first signing since arriving at Goodison Park.
Kokcu is not the finished article. But he appears to have the potential to be an inspired signing for the Toffees.
He is an attacking-minded, box-to-box midfielder with an impressive passing range. The defensive side of his game could be improved, but that will come for a player who does not turn 20 until the final days of the year.
Signing Kokcu would be a real statement of intent. And Everton are reportedly hoping that they will be the ones to bring him in when the summer window arrives.
