Italian outlet Area Napoli have claimed that Everton have opened preliminary talks to sign Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik in a bid to reunite Carlo Ancelotti with the Polish striker – but The Toffees could face Premier League competition.
It is believed Everton are willing to offer as much as £31million to sign former Ajax and PSV Eindhoven striker Milik, who is expected to leave the Italian side if Dries Mertens signs a new deal – an eventuality that is expected to become reality.
However, Everton are far below Napoli’s asking price with the notoriously outspoken president Aurelio De Laurentiis wanting as much as £44million for Milik. He has scored 12 goals in 22 outings this season, and 46 in 109 games for Napoli.
But with Mertens first choice, Everton are keen to test Napoli’s resolve for Milik. However, they may face competition for the Poland international from north London duo Tottenham and Arsenal – Italian outlet CalcioNapoli24 have claimed.
TBR’s view – Milik would be a top, top signing for Everton
But it would be incredibly harsh on Dom Calvert-Lewin. The striker is in line for his first England cap the next time the Three Lions meet, as he continues to impress under the guidance of Ancelotti.
However, Ancelotti knows Milik well from his time at Napoli and the duo connecting for a second time can only mean good things for Everton. It would finally see Everton bring in in a proven top-quality striker since selling Romelu Lukaku.
