Report: Everton now have Chelsea defender David Luiz on radar

Everton’s pursuit for a defender this summer has reportedly seen them turn their attention to Chelsea’s David Luiz late in the window.

According to the Sun, Marco Silva’s team are chasing a centre-back and have looked at Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori.

It is understood that Luiz is another target considered by the Toffees and they could go against their transfer policy for the 32-year-old.

The report explains that the Brazilian has signed a two-year contract at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is reluctant to lose senior players.

Luiz is an experienced player that looks set to be a regular starter for Chelsea in the new campaign, so tempting him away to Goodison Park looks a tough ask.

The 56-time capped Brazil international is one of the best ball-playing centre-backs in the world, but has always made the odd mistake defensively.

TBR’s View:

Everton’s late interest in Luiz is bizarre and it would be an incredible piece of business if it goes through, but it looks very unlikely.

The South American will surely be an ever-present in Lampard’s Chelsea XI in the upcoming campaign and ditching them for Everton makes little sense.

Silva should press ahead with interest in Blues youngster Tomori, as he looks a much more realistic target and has immense potential to fulfil.

Luiz is someone still capable of playing at the highest level and is likely to be out of Everton’s reach, plus is a high-risk player that can cause some nerves at the back.
