Everton are reportedly close to signing highly-rated defender Ben Godfrey from Norwich City.

According to BBC Sport, the Toffees have agreed a £25million transfer fee with add-ons for the centre-back after a previous offer of £20million with add-ons was rejected.

It is claimed that the 22-year-old is now set to have a medical within the next 24 hours and there shouldn’t be an issue with personal terms.

Godfrey was part of a Norwich team that suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, but he earned many plaudits for his performance and he’s set to make a swift return to the top-flight.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side appear to be on the verge of bringing him to Goodison Park and he could cap an excellent window for the Merseyside club.

Everton have already added quality recruits in Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Niels Nkounkou and James Rodriguez to the squad, which has helped them to win their opening six games of the new season across all competitions.

TBR’s View:

Godfrey was part of a Norwich backline that struggled massively at times last season, but they were a group of inexperienced youngsters and the potential was clear for everyone to see.

Newcastle United have already signed left-back Jamal Lewis, with Godfrey the next set to leave Carrow Road for big money.

Godfrey is going to have a tough battle forcing into the Everton XI when they are playing so well, but he’s a ball-playing centre-back with great leadership qualities and he could be a long-term solution for them.
