Italian website CalcioMercato have claimed that Everton have opened talks with Thiago Silva’s agents to lure the Paris Saint-Germain captain to Merseyside this summer – but they face competition from Serie A outfit Fiorentina.
Silva, 35, is still on the books at PSG as he looks to complete the Champions League campaign with the French champions. But once PSG are knocked out – or win the competition – he will be a free agent.
It sees Silva leave PSG after eight years and 313 appearances in all competitions. Set to turn 36 in September, you would be forgiven for thinking he could join a side in China, the Middle East or even a move to the MLS.
However, the latest report claims Everton have opened talks with his agents over a move to reunite with ex-PSG gaffer Carlo Ancelotti. Fiorentina are also in talks to sign the soon-to-be freebie.
TBR’s view – Could Silva really end up in the Premier League?
Despite his age, it would be some coup. The Sun claim he is earning an enormous £325,000 a week, but could be willing to take a pay cut. He is still one of the best defenders in world football.
French football is quick, and Champions League football is still very much within his grasp. There is no question as to whether he is past it or still has a couple of years left in the locker – but it is whether Everton can convince him.
