Everton have made their opening move in the race to sign Sergio Aguero, with the Daily Star reporting that they have spoken to the representatives of the striker, who is also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United.

Aguero is approaching his final few weeks as a Manchester City player. He is set to become a free agent at the end of the campaign after an incredible spell at Eastlands.

And it appears that a number of Premier League sides want the 32-year-old.

The Daily Star claims that there is interest from Spurs, Leeds and Chelsea in the Argentinian. But it is the Toffees who have seemingly looked to put themselves in pole position.

The report claims that Everton cannot match Aguero’s £240,000-a-week wages. However, they have apparently told his representatives that they will make up any difference with a huge signing-on fee.

Aguero is edging towards the end of his career. He will have turned 33 before the start of next season. Nevertheless, it would be a huge statement for any of his admirers to bring him in.

He reminded everyone of what he can still do with an emphatic finish in the win at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

And on a free transfer, a move could prove to be a masterstroke from any of those chasing his signature.

Everton would be adding another superstar to their increasingly exciting group. Spurs meanwhile, would perhaps land themselves the dream rival for Harry Kane.

And it would simply be remarkable if Leeds did manage to get him to Elland Road. The wage demands would surely suggest however, that they must be huge outsiders this time around – particularly with Everton hatching a plan to overcome that hurdle.
