Report: Everton make £13.7m bid for goal machine, deal to be completed this week
Turkish newspaper Fanatik have claimed that Everton have had a £13.7million bid accepted for Galatasaray striker Mbaye Diagne.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a superb 2018-19 campaign despite joining Gala in the January window. His ability to find the back of the net at a ratio of almost a goal a game did not stop despite changing clubs halfway through.
During the first half of the season, Diagne scored a whopping 20 goals in just 19 matches for Kasimpasa. Moving to Gala, he struggled to maintain such a rate – but still smashed home 11 goals in just 17 games.
Despite that impeccable form, Gala are keen to sell the Senegal international despite him having a contract at the club until the summer of 2023. A move to Everton is now seemingly on the cards for the African ace.
An offer worth £13.7million has been accepted, and the report claims a deal will be done this week.
TBR’s view – Diagne’s goalscoring rate better than Tosun
Cenk Tosun was an expensive risk at £27million in January 2018, joining Everton from Besiktas after impressing in the SuperLig and the Champions League. But his goalscoring form was nothing on Diagne’s.
Combining that stat with the fact that Diagne’s price tag is basically half what Everton paid for Tosun, and it makes Diagne a much better option than Tosun – alleviating the concerns of Everton fans of signing a striker from Turkey.
Tosun has flopped at Goodison Park. Diagne has a much bigger chance of being a success given his goalscoring form, as well as his £13.7million value.
