Report: Everton lead Max Aarons race; ready to make contact with Norwich
Everton have jumped to the front of the queue in the race to sign Max Aarons, with TEAMtalk reporting that the Toffees are ready to make contact with Norwich City.
Carlo Ancelotti managed to bring Ben Godfrey in from Carrow Road during the previous transfer window. But Aarons was one of several key men Norwich managed to hold onto.
However, it appears that Daniel Farke’s men face a fresh fight to keep the right-back. TEAMtalk reports Manchester United are tracking the 20-year-old.
But the report claims that Everton are now amongst the leaders in the race to sign Aarons. In fact, it is suggested that they are now ready to make contact with the Canaries ahead of the January transfer window.
The report adds that Norwich would be willing to consider offers for Aarons. But they would ideally like the defender to stay until the summer, so a loan agreement may perhaps help get a bid across the line.
TBR View: Godfrey form suggests Aarons deal would be inspired for Everton
It would be interesting to know how much of an influence Godfrey has had on Everton’s reported interest in Aarons.
The 22-year-old has been outstanding during his time at Goodison Park. His form is all the more remarkable given that he has often played as a left-back for Ancelotti.
Aarons was arguably a lot more impressive than Godfrey during Norwich’s year in the top flight. So seeing Godfrey prove so impressive on Merseyside must be a factor in Everton apparently preparing to make their move for his old teammate.
