Report: Everton keen on manager deemed 'one of the best' by Barcelona star

Lucien Favre is amongst the managers that Everton are looking at after parting company with Rafa Benitez over the weekend, according to a report from The Athletic.

The Toffees put fans out of their misery at the weekend following a hugely disappointing defeat to Norwich. Of course, Benitez was never a popular appointment given his connections with their Merseyside rivals.

A bright start quickly turned sour. And Benitez left having won one game since the end of September.

One Player Who Should REJECT Your Club

The relief Everton fans feel about Benitez’s departure will quickly turn to concern however. Farhad Moshiri’s appointments since arriving at Goodison Park have been underwhelming. Even Carlo Ancelotti was under pressure before choosing to leave for Real Madrid.

With Everton not out of the relegation battle, the next appointment will be crucial. And Everton appear to be starting with a lengthy list of names.

Amongst those, according to The Athletic, is Favre. The 64-year-old is out of work after leaving Borussia Dortmund in 2020. He left having won 64 games in 110 at Westfalenstadion.

In fact, Favre has won almost half of his games in charge across his entire managerial career. And interestingly, he has already worked in a number of countries. So that should work in his favour as the Toffees hierarchy consider whether he could adapt to the Premier League.

Everton target Lucien Favre considered ‘one of the best’

Marc-André ter Stegen meanwhile, once labelled Favre as ‘one of the best‘ coaches he has ever had.

Favre has previously come close to coming to the Premier League. The Guardian reported that he turned down the Crystal Palace job in the summer. It was suggested that Favre felt that he was not ready to return to management.

Favre is a manager who has a clear identity. He knows how his teams will play. And after losing their way under Benitez, Everton could certainly do a lot worse than turn to the Swiss.
