Everton have become the latest Premier League side to join the race to sign AC Milan striker Krzysztof Piatek, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (19/1; page 66).
Piatek has not had the easiest time at San Siro this season. He scored nine goals during the second-half of the last campaign after his move from Genoa.
But he has managed just four league strikes this time around. Nevertheless, he is attracting a lot of attention this month.
The Sunday Mirror (19/1; page 66) reports that Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur and Sevilla all want the Poland international. And it suggested that the Eagles are in contact with his agent about bringing him to Selhurst Park.
But the Sunday Mirror is also reporting that the Toffees want the 24-year-old after loaning Cenk Tosun to the Eagles earlier this month.
It is not the first time that Everton have been linked with Piatek. Calciomercato reported in November that they could be offered the forward.
But Carlo Ancelotti is now at the helm at Goodison Park. And it appears that the former Napoli boss may now be interested in the Serie A striker.
TBR View – Could Ancelotti ignite Piatek’s career?
Ancelotti will be well aware of what Piatek is capable of. The striker’s first two goals following his move to the Rossoneri came against Napoli in last season’s Coppa Italia.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been excellent this season. But the Toffees arguably need depth up front.
And perhaps Ancelotti may feel that a move for Piatek may prove an inspired way to address that particular issue.
