FourFourTwo claim Everton are in the race to sign Napoli attacker Lorenzo Insigne – but Newcastle ‘could’ also look at a deal for the Euro 2020 winner.

Insigne, 30, is out of contract at the end of the season. Little surprise, then, that he is generating plenty of interest in his services ahead of January.

The Napoli skipper came through the ranks at his current side, but he and Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis are struggling to renew his deal.

In that time, he has clocked up a huge 411 appearances in all competitions – producing 203 goal involvements. He has scored 114, creating 89.

Insigne has been sensational – but a move is looking likely. Gazzette Dello Sport say Insigne wants £114,000 a week to renew his Napoli deal.

But Napoli are unwilling to offer that. FFT say Everton are interested, among other clubs being linked. It would see Insigne reunite with Benitez.

However, Everton are not the only Premier League side that could sign him. The report says Newcastle and Eddie Howe might sign him in January.

The report also says that Tottenham, Arsenal and Barcelona have been linked. If any of those three sign Insigne, he surely starts.

He would join any of the above, surely. But Newcastle and Everton have trump cards up their sleeves – very different trump cards.

For Everton, it is Benitez. The two worked at Napoli between 2013 and 2015, and had a good relationship. Insigne was from the player he is now.

Newcastle have financial clout. The chance to be the face of the world’s richest club will appeal to many – as will Newcastle’s big contract offer.

Yes, they could convince Insigne, but it must be said that a move to Merseyside or Tyneside is unlikely.
