Everton have been credited with an interest in Marseille star Morgan Sanson.
The Toffees are named by Foot 01 as one of three Premier League sides keen on the 24-year-old – Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United being the others.
It was thought Marseille were keen to sell Sanson before June 30, which is the end of the accounting year, but that is now highly unlikely.
Sanson, valued at €30 million (£26.8 million) by his club, is still likely to depart though according to the report.
The playmaker has been with Marseille since 2017 after transferring from Montpellier, but his two-and-a-half-year stint appears likely to soon end.
Everton’s interest in Sanson is interesting.
There doesn’t appear to be any immediate need for the star since they have just bought Andre Gomes permanently.
Versatile Sanson is capable of playing any central midfield role, so perhaps Everton are preparing for life after Idrissa Gueye, who is a long-term target for Paris Saint-Germain.
Or the club are simply keen to increase the level of competition in midfield.
