Report: Everton interested in Belgium boss Roberto Martinez

Everton are interested in bringing Roberto Martinez back to Goodison Park, according to a report from Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad.

Martinez is, of course, gearing up to lead Belgium into the World Cup. Once again, there is a certain amount of pressure on the Belgian squad given the amount of talent within their ranks.

It arguably appears to be a final opportunity for the country’s amazing generation to achieve something special. And with that, some may be wondering whether this could be a final tournament for Martinez.

Het Nieuwsblad reports that Martinez is open to staying with Belgium beyond this tournament. But he is also convinced that he will attract offers quickly should he leave. His contract expires at the end of the year.

And one of the clubs keen on appointing Martinez should he become available is the Toffees.

Frank Lampard is coming under plenty of pressure right now, with Everton languishing towards the bottom of the Premier League table.

Certainly, a second heavy defeat in a row to Bournemouth appeared to be a low point in Lampard’s tenure.

Lampard did have credit in the bank at Goodison Park. He did a good job to keep the Toffees in the Premier League last season. And he has not been dealt the easiest hand in the transfer market due to the mistakes of previous windows.

However, some of that credit amongst supporters appears to have now disappeared. He has a real point to prove when the domestic season resumes.

You would imagine that the Everton hierarchy are ready to give him a chance to turn their fortunes around. If he was on the brink ahead of Saturday, he would have surely gone much sooner after the final whistle.

But he surely needs some good results. And his cause may not be helped should ‘brilliant‘ managers such as Martinez become available in the coming weeks.
