Report: Everton in talks over 'frightening' midfielder, they're heading in the 'right direction'
Everton have been linked with Idrissa Gueye over the past few weeks.
However, talks between the Toffees and Paris Saint-Germain reportedly stalled, putting a move in jeopardy.
But now, it looks as though discussions have resumed and are heading in the right direction.
They claim that, following a ‘long period of stalemate’ between Everton and PSG, negotiations have now resumed.
L’Equipe has reported that talks are ‘moving in the right direction’ after some ups and downs during weeks of talk.
They say that Gueye was ‘ready to commit’ to Everton.
However, those in charge at Goodison apparently ‘put the brakes on negotiations’ amid a failure to strike a deal with PSG.
Now, talks have reportedly resumed and the latest exchanges have been ‘deemed positive’ by Everton.
It is ‘once again hoped’ that Gueye can return to Everton before the transfer window closes shut at the start of September.
Liverpool Echo also reported last week that the problems have been ‘ironed out’.
The Toffees were increasingly hopeful of reaching an agreement, added the report.
“He’s a machine”
Everton have already bolstered their midfield ranks this summer by signing Amadou Onana.
But with Abdoulaye Doucoure picking up an injury, it’s no surprise that the Toffees are pushing for Gueye.
It would be a big boost for Everton if they can get a move for their former player across the line.
He showed during his previous spell that he could be one of the best holding midfielders in the Premier League.
That form prompted PSG to spend £30million to sign him.
While Gueye’s spell at the Parc des Princes hasn’t quite worked out, he remains an “amazing” player who’d surely be great for Everton.
Micah Richards recently claimed that Gueye would all-but guaranteed Everton would stay up.
He wrote in the Daily Mail: “If Everton get a deal done to bring Idrissa Gana Gueye back, there is not a hope of them being relegated.
“I played with Idrissa at Aston Villa and he’s a machine. He will do the work of two men – the running he can do is frightening.
“I saw him do a drill at Villa, during the middle of Ramadan and his stamina was breathtaking. He was literally running on empty but still beat everyone.”
