Everton are reportedly now leading the race to sign Jean-Clair Todibo from Barcelona.
According to Le10 Sport, the Toffees currently have the edge over Napoli, with Rennes having dropped out altogether.
Todibo spent the second half of last season on loan at Schalke and made 10 first-team appearances for the club in what was an injury-hit stint.
Supposedly Todibo is set to leave Barca on loan, but it remains to be seen if Everton can get a deal over the line and if they would be including an option to buy.
Carlo Ancelotti has strengthened his midfield significantly with the acquisitions of James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure, but the need for a new central defender is clear.
Youngster Jarrad Branthwaite and Mason Holgate are both facing a few weeks on the sidelines with injury, meaning the manager has just Yerry Mina, Michael Keane to choose from right now.
TBR’s View – Everton to raid Barca once more?
One gets the feeling that Everton stand a great chance of signing Todibo ahead of Napoli, as the club have done business on a few occasions with Barca in recent times.
The club have signed Andre Gomes, Yerry Mina and Lucas Digne in the last few years, suggesting there is a good relationship between the two clubs there.
Todibo could well become the next star to swap Barcelona for Merseyside, and his fellow countryman Digne, Doucoure and new youngster Niels Nkounkou could help him settle.
