French newspaper Nice Matin have reported that Patrick Vieira’s OGC Nice are closing in on a move to sign Everton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin this summer – with an announcement expected in the ‘coming days’.
Schneiderlin, 30, has been in and out of the Everton side this season – clocking up 18 appearances in total for the Toffees. However, he only managed four Premier League outings following the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian gaffer has preferred the likes of Tom Davies, Andre Gomes and Gylfi Sigurdsson in the middle of the park – which has seen £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) midfielder Schneiderlin plummet down the Everton pecking order.
Now, it appears Vieira is looking to bring the France international to Nice and the two sides are at an advanced stage in striking a deal. An agreement is yet to be found in terms of a fee, but there is a belief a deal will get done.

TBR’s view – Getting rid of Schneiderlin is key for Everton
Not only has the experienced midfielder dropped down the pecking order and is hardly even warming the bench, but the former Manchester United and Southampton man is one of the club’s highest earners.
Everton are unlikely to be affected majorly by the current global health crisis, but getting rid of Schneiderlin and removing his pay cheque from the wage bill will certainly help. Marcel Brands deserves praise if a deal goes through.
