Everton have reportedly expressed an interest in bringing Real Betis left-back Alex Moreno to Goodison Park in the summer, according to Spanish outlet AS.
Moreno, a versatile speedster who is also apt on the left wing, joined the Seville-based club last summer from Rayo Vallecano for around €7million (£6.4million), according to Grada 3.
The 26-year-old has been thoroughly impressive for Betis this term, with 25 appearances in all competitions and one goal and four assists under his belt.
According to AS, the La Liga club reckons they could sell Moreno for three times what they paid for him, amid interest increasing in the Catalan.
The outlet also claims that Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton are looking for a player with his characteristics, namely a pacey and powerful left-sided player.
The Toffees’ Premier League rivals Crystal Palace are also said to be monitoring Moreno with a view to a future bid, given the player is a “perfect fit” for the English top flight.
With Everton veteran Leighton Baines out of contract at Goodison Park this summer, there certainly is scope for the Toffees to bring in a replacement.
Likewise, a pacey, powerful and versatile left-sided player could offer Ancelotti an alternative to an inverted playmaker like Bernard on the wing.
However, it’s also worth noting that, as reported by AS, Betis manager Rubi has been wanting Moreno to “improve his defensive capabilities”.
While £19.2million isn’t particularly pricey these days, Everton must do their due diligence on Moreno and see whether he would truly bolster their ranks.
