Everton have spoken to Manchester United about the possibility of signing goalkeeper Sergio Romero, according to the Telegraph’s live blog.

The Toffees are potentially lining up a move for a new goalkeeper after another weekend went by with Jordan Pickford making a mistake.

Romero is now third choice at Old Trafford after Dean Henderson returned from Sheffield United. And after being linked with the likes of Leeds and Everton all summer, it now looks like the Toffees are making their move.

However, Tottenham stopper Paulo Gazzaniga is another name being mentioned by the Telegraph. The Spurs man is also said to be wanted by Liverpool, who are having their own goalkeeping issues.

Romero has made 96 appearances for Argentina and has bags of experience in the bank already. At 33, he has been a reliable goalkeeper for United but will now find chances limited following Henderson’s return.

Everton, meanwhile, could look to replace Pickford given their brilliant start. Carlo Ancelotti has previously backed his number one but it is believed this weekend may have changed his mind.

Romero has been fine at United for a long time and it’s only because of De Gea he hasn’t had as much attention.

But he is an international goalkeeper of the highest order and would instantly put pressure on, or even take the place, of Pickford.

Romero could flourish with the Toffees as well. In a team that is flying high in the Premier League, he could be the final piece in the puzzle for Carlo Ancelotti.
