Report: Everton have now been offered the chance to sign 'amazing' Champions League player

Everton have now been offered the chance to re-sign combative midfielder Idrissa Gueye from French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Links between the Toffees and their former anchorman have sprung up in recent days and The i are reporting that the chance is there now.

Midfield is apparently an area of the pitch that Frank Lampard is desperate to strengthen, having now signed a left-back and a winger.

It could be argued that Everton have not successfully replaced Gueye since he left for Paris, and that underlines their recent recruitment struggles.

A potential concern is that Gueye is past his best and is not the force he was when he left the Premier League.

And Everton could well do with some younger blood and someone who can race around the pitch in their engine room next term.

But it seems he would be a popular recruitment with their supporters, who are keen for a much-improved season this time around.

During his time at Goodison, Gueye was described as ‘amazing‘ by fellow central midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin, in an interview with the club’s official website.

He said: “Gana is just amazing in what he does. Before you could see his main point was getting the ball back, but now he likes to drive forward with the ball and take people on.

“It is a pleasure for me to play alongside him.”
