Report: Everton have not made contact for Wendel, but potential £17.7m price-tag is encouraging

Reports from Brazil this week have suggested Carlo Ancelotti has spoken to Sporting Lisbon midfielder Wendel regarding a potential move to Goodison Park.

As reported by Esporte News Mundo, the 22-year-old is a target for both Everton and Napoli, with a deal until 2025 set to be offered to the midfield maestro.

However, reports in Portugal have now suggested that is not the case, but it is not all doom and gloom regarding Everton’s chances of signing the player.

Record is reporting that there has not yet been any official approach to the Portuguese club or the player regarding a potential move to Everton.

Instead, they report that Sporting are hopeful of keeping the player and would only negotiate an exit if a team were to make an offer in the region of €30 million (£26.5m).

Although, that price-tag has been disputed elsewhere in Portugal. A Bola is suggesting that Sporting might have to consider any offer of €20 million (£17.7m) for the player. It is certainly a huge reduction on his apparent (AS) €50 million (£44m) release clause.

At that price, Everton will no doubt be tempted to make a move for the player, even if Sporting are currently insistent on not losing the services of one of their top talents.

Everton fans will no doubt have to keep an eye on this developing rumour.
