Carlo Ancelotti’s Everton have been linked with a three-time league champion and World Cup medallist who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The Toffees have reportedly been wanting to bring Paris Saint-Germain right-back Thomas Meunier to Goodison Park for some time now.

Le 10 Sport reckons that the Belgian’s future at the Parc des Princes is all but over, saying it’s “very unlikely” that he will stay, and the Toffees are believed to be monitoring proceedings closely.

Meunier joined PSG from Club Brugge for a reported €7million (£6.3million) fee in 2016 and has made 128 appearances for the Ligue 1 giants, claiming 13 goals and 21 assists (Transfermarkt).

However, the 28-year-old has started just 14 games in the French top flight and, with no breakthrough in contract talks, he now looks set to seek pastures new.

Meunier won the Belgian Pro League with Brugge in 2016 before lifting the French Ligue 1 title with PSG in 2018 and 2019.

He also helped Belgium finish third in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Questions have been asked of Everton’s right-back position in recent times, with Seamus Coleman’s displays coming under some criticism.

Djibril Sidibe is on loan at Goodison Park from Monaco and it remains to be seen if the Toffees choose to sign him permanently.

Jonjoe Kenny could also be in line for a first-team spot at Everton next season given his heroics on loan at Schalke.

However, Meunier is undoubtedly a huge upgrade on all three players, given his impressive pedigree and exploits for club and country.

Besides, often does a 40-cap international who was valued at £26million just last summer (The Mirror) become available for absolutely nothing?
