Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly interested in bringing Alex Meret to Goodison Park, according to Il Napoli.

The Toffees currently have Jordan Pickford and Joao Virginia on their books, plus Robin Olsen on loan from Roma.

Meret joined Napoli under Ancelotti’s watch back in 2018 and the 23-year-old has made 68 competitive appearances for the club to date.

However, he’s had to make do with game time on a rotational basis, sharing goalkeeping duties with David Ospina.

And according to Il Napoli, Meret won’t want to stick around if the Partenopei fail to make it into the Champions League.

The outlet also claims that Ancelotti is “strongly interested” in signing the one-cap Italy international.

Former Udinese great Antonio di Natale rates Meret very highly and made this clear when he left the club.

He was quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport as saying: “I saw him grow in all aspects, both technically and in terms of character.

“Napoli have secured a goalkeeper for the next 10 years. For me, he’s the new Buffon.”

Meret was in goal when Napoli shocked Liverpool 2-0 in a Champions League game in September 2019, and made the following incredible save against Mohamed Salah.

TBR View:

Meret is a high-calibre goalkeeper who has shown he has what it takes at the top level.

Indeed, Manchester United were said to be interested in him last year, as reported by ESPN.

Pickford is a top keeper on his day but questions remain over his consistency.

As such, a player like Meret, who is talented, has a lot of potential and knows Ancelotti well, would be a good shout for Everton.
