Report: Everton eye 'Rolls-Royce' wanted by West Ham and Newcastle
Everton have become the latest side to eye a move for Lloyd Kelly, with the Sunday Mirror (9/1; page 71) reporting that the Toffees are planning to battle West Ham and Newcastle for the defender.
Bournemouth lead the Championship. And only two sides have conceded a fewer number of goals so far. They have been beaten 20 times in 25 games.
The Cherries look to be in with a fantastic chance of sealing promotion. But a number of Premier League sides are looking to poach one of their brightest talents.
Kelly has made 19 starts this season. And the Sunday Mirror (9/1; page 71) reports that Everton have entered the race with West Ham and Newcastle also keen on the 23-year-old.
The Toffees are well on their way towards overhauling their defence this month. Both Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson have arrived at Goodison Park to strengthen their full-back options.
And it would now appear that Rafa Benitez has set his sights on a new centre-back. Leicester City are the only side above the Toffees in the table to have conceded more goals in the Premier League.
Lloyd Kelly unlikely to address all of the problems at Everton, but he would still be a very exciting signing
Obviously, signing Kelly is unlikely to address all of the remaining problems. But he does appear to have a very bright future ahead.
Jonathan Woodgate previously labelled him a Rolls-Royce. And Woodgate certainly knew something about defending at the highest level.
Only four players average more passes per game than Kelly this season, according to Whoscored.
He would be a smart signing for Everton. But with Bournemouth looking to get across the line in the promotion race, they are not going to make it easy for any of his admirers to lure him away.
