According to a report from The Sun, Everton are interested in signing Arsenal defender Calum Chambers in January.

The versatile Englishman has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta. Takehiro Tomiyasu’s arrival has pushed him further down and it doesn’t look like he has a future at Arsenal.

Chambers started the games against Brentford and Manchester City earlier in the season. However, he has made the bench just once in the Premier League since, which shows that a move away is the best thing for him.

Everton are on the lookout for a new right-back and Chambers could well be a very smart option.

The report claims that Everton are still keen to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The Toffees were heavily linked with a move for him in the final few days of the transfer window, but Arteta blocked that deal.

It is unlikely that the versatile Englishman will be allowed to leave in January as well considering that Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey will both be away for a few weeks to represent their countries in the African Cup Of Nations.

As a result, Rafa Benitez has turned his attention to Chambers, who is very versatile as well. The report claims that Everton are looking to seal a deal for just £5 million, which would be a huge bargain.

TBR View:

Arsenal expected a lot of Chambers when they signed him from Southampton all those years ago. Arsene Wenger was a big fan and even labelled him a ‘strong footballer‘ in the summer of 2015.

Sadly for him, injuries and competition at Arsenal have cost him a place in the side. He will have just six months left on his contract and a move away to a club where he’ll play regularly would be hugely beneficial for his career.

Chambers could be brilliant for Everton. He can play at right-back, in central defence and in defensive midfield. He would offer Benitez a lot of options and at just £5 million, he would be a fantastic signing.
