Everton could be about to make a big-money move for Diego Llorente. According to Spanish media outlet Noticias de Gipuzkoa, Real Sociedad have been told to expect a bid from Everton.
The Toffees will be in the market for a new central defender this summer. Phil Jagielka was released and Kurt Zouma’s loan from Chelsea has ended.
Marco Silva has been scouring the market for some new additions at centre-back. And Llorente could well be his preferred option.
Real Sociedad reportedly value Llorente at around €30m (roughly £26.5m) despite his €50m (just under £45m) release clause. If Everton match the £25.6m asking price, they could land their man.
Llorente has been with Sociedad for two years now since his move from Real Madrid. The Spain international has racked up 57 appearances for the club over two seasons.
But he could be set for a new challenge. Everton are hoping to bring the 25-year-old to Merseyside to bolster their defensive options. If Llorente joins Everton, he will be competing with Michael Keane and Yerry Minda for starts.
Considering the widespread interest in Llorente, this could prove to be a shrewd piece of business by Everton. For £26,5m, Llorente could be Everton’s long-term solution at the back.
Zouma will still be Silva’s first option but Chelsea will be reluctant to sell given their transfer ban. If Llorente can adapt to life in England, he could a solid partner for Mina or Keane.
