Everton youngster Jarrad Branthwaite is reportedly close to securing a loan move away from Goodison Park.
According to the Liverpool Echo, the Toffees defender is “closing in” on a temporary exit for the rest of the season.
It is understood that Championship side Blackburn Rovers have emerged as the frontrunners to sign the 18-year-old.
Despite interest from three other clubs, the report explains that Blackburn are in pole position to sign the £15,000-a-week star (Spotrac) on loan for the second half of the campaign.
Branthwaite joined the Merseyside club a year ago from Carlisle United, but he’s made just five senior appearances so far.
The 6ft 5in Englishman is a colossus centre-half that is good on the ball and has plenty of potential.
Unfortunately for the upcoming talent he’s got a host of senior centre-backs that he’s fighting for a place alongside in the Everton squad.
Despite being regarded as an exciting upcoming talent, Branthwaite has played very little senior football in his career to date and desperately needs minutes.
A loan spell in the second-tier looks great business on paper, especially with a Blackburn team that are trying to look up the table to get themselves in the mix for the play-offs.
He’s had a small taste of senior action with Everton and only played 14 games for Carlisle before he was snapped up, which is why it’s crucial he gets some regular minutes under his belt to help develop his game.
