Everton have been dealt a potential blow in their pursuit of Lazio striker, Ciro Immobile.
The Italian striker has been previously linked with a move to Goodison Park as Carlo Ancelotti looks to add a proven striker to the ranks.
However, according to a report from Calciomercato, Lazio are preparing to offer Immobile a new contract in the hope of fending offer interest from abroad.
Immobile’s current deal runs until 2023, so there is little in the way of a mad rush to get a deal done. However, it is believed the club want to tie the Italian down further given his explosive form this season.
The striker has fired in a hugely impressive 30 times this term. Those goals have led Lazio on a surprise title challenge, with the Rome club sitting second and just a point behind Juventus.
Can Everton really land Ciro Immobile?
Everton were always going to face an uphill struggle to land someone like Immobile. Given his record and how highly-regarded he is at Lazio, the Toffees would need to pay a premium.
News, then, of a new deal in the offing for Immobile will put a further dent in Everton’s pursuit.
Furthermore, Immobile is 30-years-old. That could well mean he has no intention of moving away from his homeland.
He did that previously with a move to Dortmund that didn’t go well. A move to Merseyside at this stage of his career, then, could also prove risky.
Everton shouldn’t give up on Immobile – TBR View
Despite the above, there’s still a chance that Ciro Immobile might fancy Premier League football.
Given his record in Serie A, he might fancy proving himself in another league. Another added bonus for Immobile would be the wages he could command in England.
No other league in the world has the riches coming into that the Premier League does. If money is a factor, then Everton could well trump Lazio.
