Roma defender Alessandro Florenzi in the January transfer window.

According to Calciomercato, Carlo Ancelotti is on the verge of becoming the next Toffees manager and it’s just the announcement that is missing.

It is understood that the 60-year-old already has his eyes on potential Everton targets for the New Year and he could turn his attention to Roma full-back Florenzi.

The report details that Roma could look to loan out their captain considering his lack of minutes, while a permanent deal further down the line could cost £15.3million.

Everton still have caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson in charge for Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup quarter-final at home to Leicester City.

But Sky Sports have reported that Ancelotti should be named full-time manager by the end of the week and that he’s reached an agreement in principle to take charge.

TBR’s View:

With Ancelotti expected to arrive through the Goodison Park doors, he will want to make his stamp on the squad in January if he can and the arrival of some new faces will help that.

Florenzi is an experienced defender that is an intriguing option for Everton to consider and he could help improve the backline.

The 28-year-old has proven himself a leader during his time with Roma and he graduated from their academy to play 275 senior games for them.

But the attack-minded right-back has only featured in 13 first-team matches this campaign across all competitions and has struggled at times for regular minutes.

Everton have ageing Seamus Coleman and loanee Djibril Sidibe as their right-back options in the squad right now, which would suggest that Florenzi shouldn’t be a priority target.
