Report: Everton could now withdraw Hojbjerg offer with Tottenham favourites

The Telegraph have delivered another update in the battle between Everton and Tottenham Hotspur to sign Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg – with Spurs now clear favourites to land the Dane.

Everton had a bid accepted worth £25million for the 24-year-old earlier this week and there were signs that the former Bayern Munich star could be on his way to Merseyside – instead of north London.

But the latest report claims that Spurs have opened talks to sign Hojbjerg and not only that, but the player’s desire to move to Spurs in the coming months may see Everton choose to withdraw their offer for the powerful star.

Spurs are now expected to complete the signing of Hojbjerg – who has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Southampton. His desire to leave has even seen the Saints strip him of the Southampton captain’s armband.

TBR’s view – Which players will be impacted if Hojbjerg joins

Tanguy Ndombele has struggled since lockdown and if Jose Mourinho finally gets Hojbjerg into the club – then surely the France international may need to look for a loan move. Oliver Skipp may find himself in the same boat.

Eric Dier will firmly be considered a defender, while Gedson Fernandes is only likely to be used as a winger. Ndombele, though, is likely to be the major casualty.
