Everton could potentially sell as many as 20 players this summer as part of a total revamp at the club.
The Liverpool Echo understand that big changes are in the offing at Goodison Park, and that Marco Silva and Marcel Brands are keen to reduce a bloated squad.
Apparently, the pair want ’20 outfield senior players, three goalkeepers and a handful of youngsters’ for the 2019/2020 campaign.
Silva and Brands supposedly wanted more sales last summer, but only three unwanted players departed and there is still a large wage bill.
Everton have sent 16 first-team players out on loan since the start of the 2018/19 season, and many are likely to be sold on permanently this summer.
The report goes on to state that the Toffees want at least six new faces in after room has been made.
It sounds like busy times ahead at Goodison Park.
Certainly there are a number of players who the club definitely need to depart in order to free up space for some better quality additions.
Ageing stars on big weekly wages such as Phil Jagielka, Ashley Williams and Leighton Baines should all be moved on.
Kevin Mirallas, Oumar Niasse, Cuco Martina, Luke Garbutt and Shani Tarashaj could all be gotten rid of on the cheap as they enter the final years of their contracts.
Essentially there is a lot of deadwood at Everton right now, and Silva and Brands must be thinking about promoting some of those title-winning youngsters to the first-team next season to accompany the new acquisitions.
