Report: Everton considering moving on from Denzel Dumfries

Everton remain keen on signing Dutch full-back Denzel Dumfries this summer but could also decide to move on, given the state of the market.

The Liverpool Echo makes the claim, suggesting the Toffees want to sign Dumfries for around £15m. However, it’s reported that the market is ‘slow’ and that Marcel Brands could well move on from a potential deal.

The Echo suggest Dumfries will cost around £15m for Everton. But there’s been little movement from the PSV side of things, and now Brands could shift his focus elsewhere.

Dumfries was one of the standout full-backs in the Euros for the Netherlands, with some fine performances. He scored twice as well, cementing his reputation as one of the more attacking right-backs in Europe.

Everton are looking for a long-term replacement for Seamus Coleman this summer. The Irishman is still highly-regarded at Goodison, but he’s now 32, and suffered with injuries last term.

The Toffees have used Ben Godfrey at right-back. However, the England man’s long-term future will be at centre-half, meaning a new right-sided player is a must for the club.

Dumfries is perfect but Everton right to consider options

Deals seem to be taking an age to get over the line this summer, for one reason or another. We’ve seen it with Spurs and Arsenal, and now it appears to be the same with Dumfries.

Make no mistake, the Dutchman would be ideal for Everton. He has everything, and his Euro 2020 efforts should be noted.

But Brands is also right to be considering moving on. The squad needs adding to, and they can’t wait all summer. A £15m deal for Dumfries is a bargain, but it might be a case of playing the long game here for Everton.
