Everton are reportedly one of the clubs eyeing Arsenal centre-forward Danny Welbeck ahead of his potential exit from the Emirates Stadium.

According to the Mirror, the Toffees are joined by Newcastle United and West Ham in closely monitoring the situation of the 28-year-old.

It is understood that his contract with the Gunners expires at the end of the season, but they are weighing up offering him a new deal.

As it stands the 42-time capped England international will leave Arsenal in the summer and Everton are in the queue for him.

Welbeck has scored five goals in just 14 games this season across all competitions, with a serious ankle injury keeping him sidelined since November.

TBR’s View:

Welbeck has done a decent job as a back-up striker at both Arsenal and Manchester United in the past, but whether he’s got the ability to lead the Everton frontline remains to be seen.

He’s been plagued by injuries throughout his career and that would at least make a free transfer fairly low-risk.

Arsenal signed Welbeck for £16million (BBC) back in 2014 and the fact that he’s yet to sign a new deal highlights the uncertainty over him.

The attacker could be worth a punt for Everton this summer, but they shouldn’t hedge all their bets on him to be the answer.
