Everton have joined Liverpool in the battle to sign Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga on transfer deadline day, according to talkSPORT’s live blog (5/10; 12:10).

The Toffees’ goalkeeper options have come under the spotlight with Jordan Pickford making a poor start to the campaign. He has made a handful of errors that has cost Carlo Ancelotti’s side goals.

And following his mistake in Saturday’s win over Brighton, Pickford could be about to have more competition for his place in the side.

According to talkSPORT’s live transfer blog (5/10; 12:10), the Toffees want Gazzaniga, but they face competition from the Reds.

Gazzaniga now appears to be third choice in North London. But he has proved in the past that he can be a very good stopper at Premier League level.

He largely did very well while Hugo Lloris was injured last season. And he would surely welcome the chance to move to Merseyside if he is going to be second choice.

Certainly, after Liverpool’s defeat on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp would be forgiven for considering replacing Adrian as Alisson’s backup.

It could be very interesting if Gazzaniga has offers from both clubs to pick from.

He would be closer to the number one spot at Goodison Park. And it looks to be an incredibly exciting time to join Everton.

But Liverpool can offer Champions League football. And for a goalkeeper who may have to bide their time before getting a chance between the sticks, that may also appeal.
