Talented youngster Reece Welch is close to signing a new contract with Everton.
The Athletic report that the defender is set for a new long term deal with his current terms due to expire at the end of this season.
They say that Everton’s Premier League rivals Brentford tried to sign him this summer, likely mindful of his contract situation.
But he is all set to commit his future to the Toffees, where he will hope to keep on developing under manager Frank Lampard.

Reece Welch set for new Everton contract
Welch is a talented centre-back who has been with Everton since the age of seven and has been capped at Under-20 level for England.
In 2020, The Guardian named Welch in their list of 20 outstanding talents at Premier League club academies.
“Welch is a composed, skilful central defender whose appetite to learn and work on the defensive side of his game has impressed the club’s coaching staff,” they wrote.
Everton’s official website describes him as a ‘classy‘ player and it is understandable that the club have moved to get his long-term future sorted.
The report also says he is likely to be loaned out in January after sealing his new deal and it will be interesting to see what level he goes in at.
That is despite the fact he has regularly trained with the first team, although he is still awaiting his first Premier League start.
