Report: Everton and West Ham interested in signing Christian Luyindama

Turkish outlet Takvim have claimed that Everton and West Ham United are interested in signing Galatasaray defender Christian Luyindama this summer, with the Turkish SuperLig still very much ongoing.

Luyindama, 26, is first choice for Gala but is currently on the sidelines through injury – after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament earlier in the season. A return from the long-term knee issue is expected sooner rather than later.

The DR Congo international only joined Gala on a permanent basis in the summer from Standard Liege. Although he has only played 14 times this season, he has impressed – and is worth £13million to any interested parties.

Luyindama has a contract until the summer of 2022, but Everton and West Ham are looking to sign him in the coming months. It remains to be seen if David Moyes can beat his former side to Luyindama’s signature.

TBR’s view – Everton need Luyindama more than West Ham

Of the two squads, West Ham boast quality and cover at centre-back – so much so they chose to release Winston Reid recently. Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna are all top centre-backs.

Meanwhile, the inconsistent Yerry Mina and Michael Keane have been saved somewhat this season by the unlikely success of Mason Holgate. Everton, though, do need a central defender and The Toffees need Luyindama more than West Ham.
