Report: Everton and West Ham battling Payet’s Marseille to sign Canadian star

Jeunes Footeux claim Everton and West Ham are battling Dimitri Payet’s Marseille in the race to sign Cyle Larin. The Canada international is out of contract at Besiktas at the end of the season.

Larin, 26, joined Besiktas back in January 2018 after scoring 44 goals in 89 games for MLS side Orlando City, playing alongside Brazil legend Kaka for a period of time. At Besiktas, it has been up and down.

Struggling initially, Larin went on loan to Belgian side Zulte Waregem in 2019-20 – but had a hand in 20 goals during 33 games. He returned to Besiktas a new man, scoring 23 goals and laying on six assists last term.

This season, he remains an important part of the Besiktas side – with six goals in 18 games. One of those six came in the Champions League. But his contract with Besiktas expires at the end of the season.

A cut-price January move could be on the cards and Jeunes Footeux report that interest in the 44-time Canada international is rife. Marseille are keen, but so are four Premier League clubs.

Everton and West Ham eye Larin: A good back-up striker

Larin is unproven at the top level. While he has scored goals wherever he has gone, he has only ever played in Turkey, Belgium and the MLS. Having said that, he has scored in this season’s Champions League.

Marseille, Everton, West Ham, Brighton and Southampton are keen on Larin. It remains to be seen how much he would cost in January if he was to go, but for a fee of around £10million – he is a decent back-up option.
