Everton and Rangers are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Djed Spence from English Championship club Middlesbrough.

According to ESPN, Everton and Rangers are both keen on trying to land the 20-year-old’s signature.

However, the report explains that Wolverhampton Wanderers are currently leading the race to sign him ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

It is understood that Boro will listen to bids in excess of £5million plus add-ons for him.

Additionally, Tottenham were keen when Jose Mourinho was in charge as their manager.

Spence, who has made 39 appearances across all competitions this season, has been a first-team player at the Riverside in the past couple of years at such a young age.

He’s a London-born talent with bags of pace, and traditionally he’s a right-back.

The youngster has mainly played as a right wing-back though this year, as well as further up the pitch as a winger.

TBR’s View:

Spence burst onto the scene last year, and in truth, it’s been a more challenging second season where he’s been caught out at times defensively.

He’s miles off finished article and may have a big future, so a £5million punt on him could be worth it.

The system he’s playing in makes him a perfect fit for Wolves given their formation.

Meanwhile, Rangers don’t need another full-back option when you consider they have Nathan Patterson and James Tavernier already.

Everton though could do with an extra full-back signing ahead of next season.
