Report: Everton and Liverpool set for scouting mission, could be a bargain £20m

Sky Sports have claimed that both Everton and Liverpool scouts are set to be in attendance on Sunday afternoon to watch Bayer Leverkusen star Leon Bailey – as the Jamaican winger looks to upset the odds against Bayern Munich.

Bailey, who turns 23 in August, was one of Europe’s best wonderkids when he first signing for Leverkusen in 2017 – having been involved in 36 goals during 77 Genk outings before his £12.5million move to Germany.

Since then, his form has been somewhat inconsistent. The six-time Jamaica international started in excellent fashion and almost joined Bayern Munich in 2018 for as much as £55million. He remained at Bayer, though.

This season, Bailey has been in and out of the starting line-up and scored just seven goals in 30 outings. It is believed Bailey is available for a fee between £20million and £30million – and is keen on a move to the Premier League.

Bailey is working with Colossal Sports Management, who also looked after Raheem Sterling and Liverpool ace Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Scouts from Everton, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs will watch Sunday’s DFB Cup final.

TBR’s view – Everton, Liverpool or either Manchester club?

Bailey has shown, in his short career, that he needs regular game time to produce his best form. In and out of the side, his confidence has dropped somewhat – limiting him to just seven goals in 30 games.

At Liverpool and Manchester City, he would struggle to start. Similarly, at Manchester United he may fail to get game time week in, week out. But at Everton, he would certainly be a starter. Goodison Park is ideal for Bailey.
