The Athletic have claimed that both Everton and Leicester City are reportedly planning bids to sign 30-goal striker Ivan Toney this summer, as the Brentford number nine continues to score goal after goal in red and white stripes.
Toney, 25, ended a five-game as he took his tally to 30 goals for the 2020-21 season over the course of the weekend – scoring a penalty as Brentford gained some more momentum before the play-offs with a win over Watford.
His form has not gone unnoticed. Albeit his first season in Championship football, Toney is getting better and better – having previously scored 26 in 39 for League One side Peterborough United during 2019-20.
The report claims that ahead of the play-offs, both Everton and Leicester are planning bids to sign Brentford’s star striker and if the Bees fail to gain promotion to the Premier League – then Toney might well be tempted.
TBR’s view – What is a fair price for Toney?
It is a tricky one. Many have bandied about that Toney might cost in the region of £30million – with TeamTalk claiming that Arsenal, Leeds and West Ham are also interested despite the pricey figure. But it is hardly expensive.
For an Englishman, who has scored 30 goals at Championship level, you can hardly expect clubs to be told they would have to pay anything less than £25million. So, is it a fair price? Definitely.
