French outlet Le 10 Sport have claimed Everton and Carlo Ancelotti are looking to raid Napoli for superstar Lorenzo Insigne, with the Italin desperate to try a new challenge after a decade with the Serie A side.
A fresh-faced Insigne joined Napoli in January 2010 and has gone on to play 324 times for the Serie A side. He has also earned 34 caps for Italy, and is regarded as one of the best attackers in Italian football.
Insigne was crucial under Ancelotti during the latter’s spell in charge of Napoli, so much so that the 28-year-old has had a hand in 10 goals during his 19 appearances in all competitions. He has even scored in the Champions League this term.
The report claims Insigne has ‘repeatedly express his desire to take up a new challenge’ and now both Ancelotti and Everton are keen to lure him to Merseyside. The report also states that an answer will be given to Everton in January.
CalcioMercato claimed in the summer that Napoli value Insigne at £85million.
TBR’s view – Insigne would be an excellent signing for Everton
The Toffees have struggled up front. Yes, Dom Calvert-Lewin has been in excellent form but many do not believe the former Sheffield United man is the long-term answer for Everton – despite scoring the first and only goal of Ancelottu’s reign.
Everton also boast Oumar Niasse, Moise Kean and Cenk Tosun as options up front. But Niasse and Tosun are likely to leave in January, while Kean has struggled to live up to his £27million price tag since joining from Juventus.
Bringing in a big-name forward such as Insigne would solve that issue, and excite Everton fans. A no-brainer, if available.
