According to a report from The Telegraph, Eric Dier is set to make his first start of the season when Tottenham Hotspur face Colchester United in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men will be looking to make a statement against the League Two side after a poor run of form. Spurs have won one of their last six games, and have thrown away leads in three of their last four fixtures.

Dier has watched from the sidelines throughout the campaign. The Telegraph reports that he underwent minor surgery during the summer, and has been an unused substitute on six occasions.
The report suggests that he is now set to start on Tuesday night, with Dele Alli also set to be involved against John McGreal’s men.

TBR’s View
Tottenham may well be looking to Dier to produce a solid performance against Colchester. It would be no surprise to see Pochettino pick a number of young players, so Dier could need to step up.
It, unfortunately, already looks as though the cup competitions may provide Spurs with their best chance of silverware this term. They have fallen 10 points off top spot in the Premier League.
The Carabao Cup will probably still be at the bottom of Pochettino’s list of priorities right now. But given their recent results, they could certainly do with an impressive win to get some momentum going.
And for Dier – who earns £60,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – a good performance may just help his cause as he awaits his chance to be involved in the other competitions this season.
