Report: English manager 'tells friends' he wants to replace Bruce at Newcastle

The Daily Star report that Eddie Howe has informed his friends that he is keen on replacing Steve Bruce as manager of Newcastle United.

Howe, 43, has emerged as one of the front runners to replace Bruce at Newcastle in recent days. That is despite last managing in August 2020.

The out-of-work Englishman left Bournemouth after a second spell at the club – in which he clocked up 356 games. In total, he managed 458.

Still an incredibly young manager, Howe already has 545 games at senior level management – with 87 coming in charge of Burnley, too.

90Min report that Howe is one of three contenders to take over – after recommendations from Harry and Jamie Redknapp. He has competition.

Paulo Fonseca and Lucien Favre are also out of work. But The Star claims Howe has told his friends that he is keen on a move to Tyneside.

Howe to Newcastle: Toon fans be underwhelmed by appointment?

They would be, given the names that are being thrown about. Of course, a foreign name comes across as more exotic – but for now, Howe is ideal.

Howe would be joining Newcastle with the knowledge that he will probably not be the manager that eventually takes them into the Champions League.

But Howe is the man that could save them from relegation this season, and get the chance to go into next summer as Toon gaffer.

It would be an appointment that fans might not want but in the current climate, and Newcastle’s current position, he is absolutely ideal.
