The Times have claimed that Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard is open to a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer amid reported interest from the north London club – but they could face competition from Russia.
Lingard, 27, struggled for Manchester United last season and while there were glimpses of a return to form, he is still somewhat below par. He has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Old Trafford, which is worth £100,000 a week (Goal).
The latest report claims Spurs are interested in a move that would see Jose Mourinho reunite with Lingard. It is claimed that Lingard is open to a move to north London, but Mourinho’s side face competition from Russian outfit Zenit St. Petersburg.
TBR’s view – Could Lingard be a replacement for Dele Alli?
Alli has been linked with a Spurs exit following his absence from the matchday squad for the last two matches – and it has seen the Telegraph claim Paris Saint-Germain have opened talks over a move to sign the former MK Dons star.
Able to play out wide or in the 10 role, Lingard could be the ideal replacement for Alli if the latter does leave Spurs – even if such a move would be considered a step down by Spurs fans. If Lingard is cheap, great, but otherwise, Spurs should have a rethink.
