Report: Emerson Royal spoke to Spurs star before move
A report from The Athletic has suggested that Lucas Moura played a part in convincing Emerson Royal to join Spurs this summer, with the pair speaking before the defender’s deadline day move.
Royal was one of the big movers on the final day of the window. The Barcelona full-back has joined Tottenham.
According to The Athletic, Spurs have paid an initial £25.8 million. Meanwhile, the fee could increase by a further £4.3 million.
It may have come as a surprise to some that Royal did leave the Nou Camp. He was featuring for Ronald Koeman’s side after leaving Real Betis earlier in the window.
But it appears that Spurs did a superb job of selling the club to the 22-year-old.
According to The Athletic, Royal was impressed by what he heard from Fabio Paratici. Meanwhile, he was also encouraged by how much Nuno Espirito Santo wanted him.
But it is also claimed that he spoke to Lucas Moura ahead of the switch. And the forward was apparently full of praise for the club.
Spurs one of biggest winners in transfer window, particularly after Emerson Royal move
It looks to have been a superb window for Spurs. They have held onto their best player.
Meanwhile, they have signed the best defender in Serie A last season in Cristian Romero. They have also landed two of La Liga’s brightest talents in Bryan Gil and Royal.
And they have managed to move on many of their fringe players.
There probably remains a couple of areas for concern. But there is surely no doubt that Tottenham are one of the big winners of this summer window.
