Report: Eintracht Frankfurt make bid for Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira
Arsenal have a decision to make when it comes to the future of midfielder Lucas Torreira, after Eintracht Frankfurt made a concrete bid for him.
Di Marzio have reported that Frankfurt have put an offer on the table for Torreira, who faces an uncertain future at the Gunners. He spent last season out on loan, and is not in Mikel Arteta’s plans going forward.
Di Marzio have reaffirmed past claims that Torreira’s preference is to sign for a club in Italy. Both Lazio and Fiorentina are credited as being potential destinations for the Uruguayan.
However, both Serie A clubs have yet to put anything firm on the table. That means Arsenal could well decide to accept the offer from Frankfurt, if, of course, it meets their demands.
Torreira has two years to run on his £75k-a-week deal with the club. The Gunners will feel they want some cash in the coffers for the tenacious midfielder who they paid over £20m for in the first place.
TBR’s View: Arsenal need to sell and move on
The Arsenal squad is so inflated that the Gunners simply need to accept the loss on Torreira and move on. Whatever the fee might be, they are still paying him hefty wages, and they need shifting off the bill.
Even if Frankfurt offer a small fee, it is better than nothing. Otherwise, Arsenal will keep loaning him out, until eventually he leaves for nothing.
This was a big mistake in the transfer market from Unai Emery. Now, for Torreira’s sake as well, his time in London needs to come to an end.
